Dr. M. Jamal Deen is Distinguished University Professor and Director of the Micro- and Nano-Systems Laboratory at McMaster University. His current research interests are nanoelectronics, optoelectronics, nanotechnology, data analytics and their emerging applications to health and environmental sciences. As an educator, he won the Ham Education Medal from IEEE Canada, the McMaster University President's Award for Excellence in Graduate Supervision, and MSU Macademics' Lifetime Achievement Award for his exceptional dedication to teaching and significant contribution to student life, academia, and the community at large.

As an undergraduate student at the University of Guyana, Dr. Deen was the top ranked mathematics and physics student and the second ranked student at the university, winning the Chancellor's gold medal and the Irving Adler prize. As a graduate student, he was a Fulbright-Laspau Scholar and an American Vacuum Society Scholar. His awards and honors include the Callinan Award as well as the Electronics and Photonics Award from the Electrochemical Society; a Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation; the Eadie Medal from the Royal Society of Canada; and the McNaughton Gold Medal IEEE Canada. In addition, he was awarded the five honorary doctorate degrees in recognition of his exceptional research, scholarly and education accomplishments, exemplary professionalism and valued services.

Dr. Deen has been elected by his peers as Fellow/Academician of thirteen national academies and professional societies including The Royal Society of Canada - The Academies of Arts, Humanities and Sciences (the highest honor for academics, scholars and artists in Canada), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (China's highest national honor in the area of science and technology and highest academic title), the National Academy of Sciences India, the Canadian Academy of Engineering, IEEE, APS (American Physical Society) and ECS (Electrochemical Society). He served as the elected President of the Academy of Science, The Royal Society of Canada in 2015-2017. Most recently (Nov 2022), he was elected the inaugural Vice President (North) of The World Academy of Sciences, representing the developed countries. He was also elected to the Order of Canada, the highest civilian honor awarded by the Government of Canada.

Professor Kiat Seng YEO (M’00–SM’09–F’16) received his B.Eng. (EE) in 1993, and Ph.D. (EE) in 1996 both from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. Currently, he is full professor, Advisor (Global Partnerships) and Director for Innovation and Enterprise (China) at Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and a distinguished professor at Tianjin University. He was Chairman of the University Research Board, Member of the Academic Council, Associate Provost for Research, Founding Associate Provost for Graduate Studies and Founding Associate Provost for International Relations at SUTD. He has over 30 years of experience in industry, academia, and consultancy. Before joining SUTD, he was full professor at NTU; and spent 13 years in management positions as Associate Chair (Research), Head of Circuits and Systems and Sub-Dean (Students Affairs). Professor Yeo was also a Fellow of the Renaissance Engineering Programme (REP) and served as Senator and Advisory Board Member at NTU. He has made many outstanding contributions to advance Singapore’s education and research ambitions over the course of his career. As the Founding Director of VIRTUS, a S$52 million IC Design Centre of Excellence jointly set up by NTU and Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), he contributed extensively to the economic development of integrated circuit design in Singapore by leading multidisciplinary research, with a focus on industry collaboration. In 2016, he initiated the FIRST (Fostering Industrial Research Success Together) Industry Workshop at SUTD. Today, it is a flagship event with an attendance of over 1,000 professionals from the industry.

Since 1996, Professor Yeo has been providing consultancy services to statutory boards, local SMEs, and multinational corporations in the areas of electronics and IC design. As Principal Investigator, he secured over SGD70 million in research funding from various funding agencies and industry. He is the author of 14 books, 7 book chapters and has published over 650 top-tier refereed journal and conference papers in his area of research and holds 55 patents, including 2 patents for the world’s smallest integrated transformer, a patent for the world’s smallest integrated filter for 60GHz standard, the inventor of several high Q-factor RF spiral inductors and co-inventor of quite a few novel circuit techniques for 5G/6G wireless communication and RF/mm-wave IC applications.

Professor Yeo is a world-renowned expert in low-power RF/mm-wave integrated circuit design and a recognized expert in CMOS technology. He holds/held positions such as advisor, chair, co-chair, and technical chair at many international conferences. He was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze Award) by the President of the Republic of Singapore on National Day 2009 and was awarded the Nanyang Alumni Achievement Award in 2009 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the University and society. Professor Yeo is an Academician of Singapore Academy of Engineering, an Academician of Singapore National Academy of Science, a Fellow of ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology, a Fellow of IEEE, a Fellow of the International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance (AIIA), and a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAIA). He is the principal author of Integrated Circuit Design Research Ranking for Worldwide Universities 2008 and World University Research Rankings (WURR) 2020. Professor Yeo was recognized among the World’s top 2% Scientists by Stanford University from 2020 to 2024, World’s AI Top Scientist by AIIA in 2023, and Top Scholar by ScholarGPS in 2024.
